Congratulations to Melissa Piehl, Cicero North Syracuse graduate who emceed last night's political science awards at the University of New Hampshire. Melissa is about to finish her first year of college at the University of New Haven (ten miles from my home) and has found tremendous success with the National Model United Nations University of New Haven.
Ginette, Melissa's mother, arrived to Stratford late Friday afternoon, and we traveled east for the celebration.
It was nice to hear speeches from individuals at another institution give awards and accolades to total strangers, especially as I tried to piece together how the mechanism worked. The one thing that was extremely clear from the onset is that the UNH professors love their students and are very proud of their work. From the second we arrived, the academics in the department circulated the room to celebrate their students and to make clear that they have worked to create a tight-knit family.
Very proud of Melissa for stepping up so much in her freshman year, already chiseling her way into the southern Connecticut community and getting involved in political actions.
Nice having CNY represented on Mt. Pleasant for the weekend once again. Their say was much, much too short.
